Leaping Bunny

Again, another aptly titled piece. I have wanted to do a rabbit, but the ears can be a problem- they’ll snap off. So, I laid them back and made him leap, but leaping brings about its own problems and a bunny with arms outstretched may also snap off. I solved that by using the stone arch, solely there to hold our little guy up safely. This piece is actually sandstone, an awful medium to work if you want any shine since sand doesn’t polish well. And by that I mean not at all. Not to mention it ruins your chisels (because it’s like sandpaper). It also imparted a thin layer of brown color from whatever sediment was there eons ago- for all you know that could be the remains of a T-Rex, or maybe something less exotic. But I like him nonetheless if only for the simplicity. He will hang out until April when he will go to the TAG Gallery, and if if doesn’t find a home there he will be put out on the streets as an Easter Egg participant.

4.5 out of 5. He turned out as I envisioned, but that stupid streak layer is distracting.

Sandstone, 9”H x 11”L x 3.5”D

Leaping Bunny from the streaky side.
