A Bird of Plague
I admit, this one is a little out there. The title is a bit of a play on words, “a “bird of prey” becoming a “bird of plague”. How did I get there? Well, you have to have a little knowledge if medieval history and the plague years where doctors would wear a mask that looked like a bird head filled with flowers in the beak to mask the stink of the dead and dying. Naturally I thought, “why not put one of those bird masks on a real bird?” For the record I had not been drinking, I just felt like making a bird but those can be a little simplistic. And so there you have it, a limestone bird with a pewter head, appropriately oxidized to give it a dull look and some shiny areas where appropriate.
After looking at it the last few days,… it still looks weird. But in a good way. I can honestly say I have not ever seen another one out there. I give it a 3 out of 5 . I like how the tail gives it support, but come on man, it’s just weird.
About 4”H X 3”W X 5”D. Limestone with a pewter mask. I included a drawing of the actual mask.
A drawing of an actual plague mask.
