A Mix-up at the Factory
This piece took a little time as it combines stone carving, some wood carving and bending, and some bronze metal casting. But overall I think it was worth the time. All the items are correctly shaped, but everything is made from the wrong material. The anvil is made from limestone that would chip in an instant; the mallet head is rosewood and way too light and the handle is bronze leaving an utterly unbalanced hammer. The bending fork is made from ebony and probably the only item that might stand a chance of survival before it bursts into flames from hot metal being bent- but the bent piece is mahogany to no threat there. I liked the idea of juxtaposing all the material just because of the absurdity. Hardest part? Casing that darned mallet handle! Sand casting is much harder than it looks! but I am getting the hang of it… 4.5 out of 5 stars, because there is a flaw there which I will never tell.
Approx. 9” W x 6” H x 6” D when assembled. Limestone, bronze, wood.
